What it does

KBackup in a minute

KBackup lives in your menu bar and keeps a copy of up to two folders in your OneDrive. It copies in one direction, your folder to OneDrive, only what is new or changed, and nothing in OneDrive is ever removed.

It started as one person's drive-plus-OneDrive workflow, so it understands external drives: it syncs when a drive is connected, and it copes with OneDrive's naming rules instead of failing on them.

  • Safe by design

It never deletes anything from OneDrive, never changes your folder, and never replaces a newer file in OneDrive with an older one.

  • Copies only what changed

New and changed files are compared by size and date, written to a temporary file and swapped in when complete. Unplugging mid-sync cannot leave a half-copied file.

  • Syncs when your drive connects

It backs up when a drive with a ticked folder is connected, once at login, and whenever you press Sync Now.

  • Knows OneDrive's rules

Names OneDrive cannot store, and file types it refuses, are skipped and listed with what OneDrive would have made of the name. Nothing is renamed.

  • A clear activity log

Every sync is listed with the exact files copied. Click the magnifier to reveal one in Finder.

  • Quiet and tidy

A menu-bar app that opens at login, skips hidden and system files, and runs next to ADVANCED without touching it.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Will KBackup ever delete my files?

BASIC never deletes anything in OneDrive and never changes your folder. The only things it removes are its own temporary files.

Why were some files skipped?

OneDrive cannot store certain names (invisible characters, " * : < > ? \ | and trailing spaces), and an organisation's OneDrive may refuse some file types such as .bat, .jar and .pid. BASIC skips them and lists them in Activity with what OneDrive would have made of the name. Nothing is renamed.

Does it work with Google Drive, iCloud Drive or Dropbox?

BASIC backs up to OneDrive only. Other destinations, including a network drive or another disk, are an ADVANCED feature.

When does it back up?

When a drive with a ticked folder is connected, once at login, and whenever you press Sync Now (Command-S).

Does KBackup send my files to KHBROS?

No. KBackup copies files into the OneDrive folder that the OneDrive app keeps on your Mac, and OneDrive does the uploading. KHBROS never sees your files.

How many folders can I back up?

Up to two in BASIC. Unlimited folders are part of ADVANCED.

Is BASIC really free?

Yes. BASIC is free to download and use, with no time limit, no ads and no account. ADVANCED will be the paid edition when sales open.

macOS says it cannot verify the installer. Is it safe?

Our installers are not signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so macOS asks you to approve them once. Follow the step-by-step guide. You can also check the SHA-256 fingerprint shown next to the download.

When can I buy ADVANCED?

Not yet. We are completing our UAE business licence before we take payments. Join the waitlist and we will email you the day sales open.
